The Gold Coast, what do people think of when they hear Gold Coast... the beach? Tall holiday apartment buildings? Over tanned women.. and men?
But what about country music; I bet you don't think of country music when you think of the Gold Coast. Well over the weekend we attended The Groundwater Country Music Festival at Broadbeach. With bands including The Wolfe Brothers, Davisson Brothers Band, Casey Barnes, Hayley Jenson and more, it was a festival to remember. But what was the best part? Well, it was completely free to see all these acts. One of the great things about having a free event especially somewhere like the Gold Coast, is that Country fans flock from places all around Australia to make a holiday out of it. Also it included people who once may not have listened to Country music to come along and get a taste of the modern day country music genre. Events like these bring the community together and will help country music continue to grow in Australia. No longer is the genre about a man losing his dog, or a husband cheating on his wife, or even a person losing their old truck which results in a drinking problem. These days we're able to sing along to songs like Better Days by Casey Barnes, No sad songs By The Wolfe Brothers or Crush by Rachael Fahim which create good vibes. Country music is changing for the better and the people who attended this festival over the weekend know it!
